was surfing through the sgboy forums and found this clip that was made a while back by first-time director and crew. it's a film adaptation of a true story about a JC boy who committed suicide because he fell in love with a straight guy. terrible accents and cliche plot. it watches like one of those school drama casted by those upstart new stars wannabe. but it's one of the first to come and try to portray the problem of gay teenage suicide in singapore, and for an amateur effort it's to be applauded, i think. can be found on youtube here:
on watching, in retrospect, i'm glad my friend didn't end up like chee kiong, whether or not i believed all the drama she put up. i know that if she really did jump, all of us who disbelieved would have been very ashamed. like, actually, ck's friends in the clips.
and if anything, the soundtrack was wonderful. the two songs, It's You and Beautiful, can be downloaded here:
they're composed and sung by a local amateur artist, but they're very good, esp Beautiful.
also, found the blog of the suicided teen. it's... very eerie. from his tone he sounded perfectly sane but very depressed and emotionally unstable. the last post before his suicide was the punchline... he sounded perfectly normal and like he sanely believed he was going to be better. wondered whether i should put a link, but decided against it.
i've always wondered how people can commit suicide, if they realise they have only one life, and all the things they haven't done yet.
the short film was shot in AJC, which one of the actors said was the only school willing to lend them their premises. meaning the suicided boy was not necessarily from AJ. his tones sounded more RJ, actually.
