it's been raining for like, more than 24 hours already, and throughout today's entire training, which was very sad, cos i was the only year1 girl who went down, rah!
was pouring, and there were crazy people still swimming at like, 8.30pm. in the freaking rain. bet they were pasty china men. bet they think it's freezing chlorinated water has properties to make them like, more virile or something. erps.
was rather happy at first when tong li suggested we could just do land in the shelter, but seniors all v gung ho, so i made myself think it'll be like, quite cool to train in the rain. i can go around telling friends ("oh, you know, i once trained in a total water blizzard and it was like, 18 degrees, and the lightning was flashing so much it was like day time. but of course, it was one of the best trainings i've had...") and make myself sound very pro. turned out it was more of cold than cool, so it wasn't actually very cool. on the upside, there is no way you can feel sleepy in the rain, but i feel that's not a good trade off of benefits.
but learned edging today!! immensely satisfied. i can tip until spraydeck touch water le. but half the time will cap. and that made it all the more colder. but still is long-awaited improvement, now to cure butterfingers. cheng yu was throwing to me, and he was careful to use double hand, and it was such a nice pass, and i could see it coming to me and i was so sure i caught it (i thought to myself yes, easy pass, can catch) but the next moment the ball was in my face, and my nose is now flatter than ever. i guess it compliments my high cheekbones from the last time... ¬_¬;
this week has been the definition of exercise to eat. arms cannot extend straight after gym, rah.
remarkable foods i ate this week that made me too heavy to go job-hunting or blog: -hilton hotel new york cheese cake (a quarter of an entire cake!!!) -pizza hut triple cheese hawaiian pizza -beard papa -durian cake -cinnamon sugar pretzel -a box of apollo strawberry waffles (30 packets) -20000 packets of sweet potato chips -fuo tiao qiang (tasted like flavoursome soy sauce, but very very nice) -beijing guo tie -20000 stacks of pancakes -20000 cups of green tea
tmr will be going with aunt to a cozy italian restaurant. i love it that people keep feeding me when i'm unemployed. i shall continue with my subtle Welfare for Meishi ploy by pretending to look through Recruit everyday, hee hee.
sigh, but i'm really working on it... it being job search, and weight loss, but maybe not very enthusiastic about the second part.
hee hee... the asian games are too amusing XD i was watching the prize presentation for the women's 50m butterfly, for which singapore got gold. china was silver and japan was bronze.
commentator 1: there's [this important person] presenting to japan, bronze. impt person: *presents medal, stuffed toy and bouquet to japan swimmer* japan: *waves bouquet and toy around kawaii way* commentator 2: *high voice* oh look, i've got the flowers! and the mascot!
commentator 1: i think it's very impressive, Li, with the gold medal there. if you look at the other swimmers, they're all about five foot ten average. commentator 2: and Li's what, five foot one, there.
winners: *huddle together for photograph* Li: *holds up and kisses medal* commentator 1: actually i rather like the medals. they're very nice. commentator 2: yeah, and the straps are very nice too, actually.
lol looking forward to tomorrow's games. today's badminton, singapore Xing against korean Huang, was *fantastic*, very very exciting, i think i ingested much air from sucking in my screams.
i am inflicted with the tragic curse that haunts all world-saving heros and heroines in the world: i hurt all that are most important to me.
first my whitebook has a fever and undergoes organ-transplanting surgery, then now my main desktop catches blaster wormies, and falls asleep everytime it turns on. it's all my fault, i tried to play maple story on it again :'( i know i shouldn't, but unemployment drives people to distress. sigh.
the scenarios to be described involves a friend of mine, it's about bringing dates to formal socialising parties. in this context it is a group of all guys who are expected to attend this event to learn how to make small talk, titter about their army lives, and schmooze up to important people, or anyway, people most likely to become important, since these are the top of the newbies hierarchy.
i first heard about this kind of things from shimmie, before she left she had to go to this navy thing with shingie. another friend of mine was talking to me about the same thing about a week back, and when he told me about it i got all uncomfortable and later i realised it was more like slight irritation, because there was something wrong there and i couldn't pinpoint it. now that i've realised what it is, i have to write it down.
does anyone realise how entirely male chauvinistic these events are? i at first imagined it was the army equivalent of like, a BBA networking party, 88 Broads and all that, and i was like, "okay, networking in the army! get to know the future top people so your son in the future won't die with his head stuffed in a pail of water!" that sort of thing. instead of exchanging name cards, they would exchange like, dog tag numbers or their peacetime equivalent.
what then, i was wondering, is the date for? from what my friend told me, it was like a compulsory thing, and i suppose dates mean girls, since i cannot imagine anyone in their right minds would bring a guy, friend or otherwise. these girls will have to shop for dresses and accessories, make up, style their hair, and go through all the prom shit at, think about it, *absolutely no benefits to themselves*. in formal networking parties elsewhere, women will have their own agenda and contacts to make. what would dates at army socialising talk about? can you imagine:
"oh, i say, Olay must have the best de-wrinkling facial wash ever!" "why, i must imagine it must be very... poweful to work for you!" "well, then i must suggest that you try some *immediately*, your face does look more... dessicated, i would say, than usual. ha ha ha." "oh, but i'd have to decline, because your wrinkles seem to have been compensated with zits. but you do look much better of course. ha ha ha. maybe for those you'd want to try camo cream next?"
my semi-feminist side protests at the notion that women live to hang off men's arms. i also find it oppressive that social conventions would not allow dates to say, roll their eyes at excruciatingly boring conversations or start playing bridge in a corner, or leave altogether. at least, social conventions are such that these are not considered *gracious* behaviors. patriachial social conventions are *also* such that well-bred women *have to be gracious*, and even the term 'well-bred women' is so insulting. does anyone say 'well-bred man'? rah!
in this case i would say the women do the men favours by complying to be dates, but the problem with patriachal societies is that men see it as the women's privilege to be asked to accompany them, and many even affect this kind of attitude outwardly.
not, of course, talking about my friend, but just irritated that the government is so chauvinistic, and some girls don't even realise it, and some guys see nothing wrong with it.
sometimes i even surprise myself. just spent much time in toilet scrubbing my havianas' white straps with toothbrush. they're now blindingly white, shinier than my teeth. all pretty again :D
meishi, you good for nothing bum. stop surfing youtube and getting high, go look for a job, lazy arse! you have dreams! (staying in hostel!) aspirations! (2 packets of apple chips everyday!) and to realise those you need money, which you'll not get by advertising for movies that don't pay you!
but so long as the damage is already done, you might as well share your discoveries. er, haha.
(i'm now 90% sure taiwan is the place all civil society should be modelled after. they produce the most brilliant people! in fact, *singapore* should learn from taiwan. instead of exhibiting works of nobel laureates, they should showcase like, artifacts from jay chou's career! firstly, just imagine the tourism!)
i *so totally love his voice*. some time back i began to wonder whether his songs are actually as nice as i think they are. because i think it's just his *voice*, i love it, and i love anything that's sung in that voice. his voice *makes* the song nice, like jolin's dao dai, which was AWFUL. i think i'm not the only one who thinks that jay chou's concert version is better than her album version, which really says something about her.
can't wait for his concert :> today i mentioned it to my mum (who was going on and on about all the outrageous things that people allow to happen in the world, like rain and his $888 concert tickets) and she said she wants to go with me if he comes singapore and i'm like, can you please don't? -_-;;
yesterday a relative came to whisk away a sewing machine from my house. in exchange, he put up the white metal board that i bought from ikea like 20 years ago. now my white wall hangs a white board, in front of which i place my white laptop.
the beauty puts a fuzzy feeling in my heart, i wish i can take a picture to share my love *sighs happily*
yay, more promoting of taiwan films! i really think taiwan makes the best gay films. the only one i saw from hong kong had DANIEL WU, and that's like, really really hot, but it was so tragic and has all sorts of pervy embarassing scenes. i like watching Queer as Folks for kicks, but like what emily says, it's oversexed, and there's not enough ANGST.
here's THE thing that's been plaguing me for the past week, it's called 盛夏光年, it opened just Oct in taiwan and everywhere except singapore. it's a teenage high school context, so there's all this unrequited love and love triangles and 'if i tell you you'll hate me' things that i'm actually a closet sucker for, AND I REALLY WANT TO WATCH IT AND I HATE THE GOVERNMENT AND OMG I REALLY REALLY WANT TO WATCH IT!!! the two leading actors got nominated for 金馬獎 for best new actor, one of them won. 楊祐寧 won the same award for Formula 17 too. see, if you want to win a 金馬獎, just star in a gay movie and show some abs! :D
here's the trailer:
omg i melted with angst at the part where 正行 shoved 守恆 at the bus stop. here's the official mtv with one of the theme songs. the song makes it sad:
notice when 正行 mentioned to 守恆 that there was this cute girl in class, and 守恆 went 'you like her?' and continued eating noodles. omg, heart is breaking! *cries*
and this is the mtv with the main theme, the singer is 阿信 from 五月天. it's quite angry:
i can't wait for this to be released on dvd XD i can't believe there isn't a single torrent on it... but if they put it on yesasia i'll buy it straight away. grr! the actors here look so super young... when they promoted the film on variety shows, they looked so cao lao, but they really look innocent and 17-year-old in the film. *HEART* it's just so *raw*, and so *young*, the themes of the movie, like piercing ears for your friend in the bathroom and all the 'i don't want you to hate me, but i don't want to be just friends anymore'.
*god*, and people actually watch *korean dramas*. don't they have anything better to watch??
this post will be all about my favouritest romantic comedy ever! XD
十七歲天空, or formula 17, stars the absolute CUTEST actor who stole my heart about like, 8 seconds into the show. omg 楊祐寧 is so adorable!! XDD
the show's about this country boy Tien who goes to the city to visit a friend he made online. when the real person doesn't turn out to be the one he imagined, he crashed at a friend's place and had a love at first sight thing with a playboy he met at the bar.
it's a 2004 show, and i watched and forgot about it (because i didn't like the other actor and i didn't think there was chemistry), but as i was telling cheryl (polo), exam periods are the most productive periods of my life, and i basically rewatched my entire gay movie collection this month or so. then i got so excited over formula 17 again i couldn't help squeeing whenever i think of it, which is like when i revise my work, eat dinner, go to the loo etc. critics called it a fresh and fun perspective to the gay romance theme, some people got all huffy because they said it was stereotypical and overly fluffy, and our own government called it 'promoting a gay utopia', in those exact words, which i hope never gets abroad because that is SUCH a tacky expression.
personally i think the show grows on you, because it's just so- happy! it's nice to rewatch over and over, because it's not like the other shows, like Bishonen, Happy Together, Velvet Goldmine, Brokeback etc, which well, i guess have artistic merits and stuff, and deal with serious themes, but tragedy really isn't something i like to put myself through all the time... there's just so much entertainment you can get from people dying. just because it's fun doesn't mean it's bad...
here's the trailer for 十七歲天空:
here's the music video, the quality's a little better, and it's longer:
omg full of love!! XD and here's the reason for this post. behind the scenes! *HEART* i got so happy after seeing this clip:
omgomgomg!! XDDDD i can't stop! i've been like this the past few days! omg! XD
i don't know why i'm posting this, it's not like anybody reading this blog's interested in joining me in gay fetish XD but! so happy~!! XDD yang you ning love!! omg so innocent and cute!!
